Prior to receiving a building permit, a Billboard License is required. Billboard signs are licensed annually by the Township of Wilmot and are the only signs permitted to advertise business activities not occurring on the same property that the sign is located. Billboards are subject to an annual license fee.
For more information on billboard sign licenses, please contact the Planning Division and refer to the Township Sign By-law.
Portable Signs
Portable signs do not require a building permit, but do require a portable sign permit. Portable signs are permitted on commercial, industrial, and institutional properties. Two permits may be issued per calendar year per property (regardless of number of businesses on a property).
To obtain a portable sign permit, please apply online using our Portable Sign application and payment form. You will be required to provide the following:
- Authorization of property owner to apply for permit (unless previously provided to the Township)
- Address of property where sign is proposed to be installed
- Name of business and message that will be displayed on the sign
- Site plan showing location of sign and distances from property lines and other signs (unless the sign is in the same location as previous approvals by the Township). Use of Google Maps or other aerial imagery is acceptable.
- Date when sign will be installed
View our fee schedule for current fees.
