Traffic Calming

Traffic calming is the use of physical solutions to reduce traffic speeds and/or cut-through traffic with the goal of making streets safer and more accessible for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

A few examples of traffic calming measures include:

  • Speed humps
  • Raised crosswalks
  • Curb bump-outs
  • Chicanes

To help address concerns of residents across the Township, we developed a Traffic Calming Policy. The goals of the policy are to improve public safety for all road users, encourage streets to function as intended and encourage active transportation. Traffic calming measures can reduce vehicles speeds and volumes while also reducing conflicts between road users.

You can fill out our Traffic Calming Request form to request a review of a street that may require traffic calming measures.
