Accessibility

The Province of Ontario has passed various acts to improve accessibility for all residents of Ontario, including the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The Township of Wilmot and all municipalities across Ontario must follow these Acts.

Policies and Practices

The Township has a number of practices and policies in place to help patrons achieve barrier free access to programs and facilities. These include:

Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee

To meet the need for an accessibility advisory committee under the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the Township of Wilmot is a member municipality of the Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee (GRAAC).

GRAAC is a cross-disability municipal advisory committee which provides advice to the local municipal councils of the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, the Region of Waterloo and the townships of Woolwich, Wellesley, Wilmot and North Dumfries.  Members are chosen based on experience in the field of disability. Members have a lived experience of disability-issues or are agencies serving persons with disabilities.  Members must have a willingness to work within the framework of a municipal advisory committee.

For more information including Agendas, Minutes, Staff Contacts, Committee Recruitment and more please visit the City of Kitchener's Grand River Accessibility Advisory Committee page
